Benchmark Scientific BeadBlaster 96 Ball Mill Homogenizer Features
The Benchmark Scientific BeadBlaster™ 96 Ball Mill Homogenizer is a high-capacity sample preparation system designed for wet homogenization, dry grinding, and cryogrinding across research and analytical laboratory workflows. With a speed range of 180 to 1,800 rpm, programmable operating parameters, and compatibility with microplates, tubes, vials, and grinding jars, the BeadBlaster 96 provides the flexibility to process everything from biological samples to hard materials.
Its powerful motor drives an arced shaking motion for rapid, efficient sample disruption and grinding. Depending on the sample and configuration, the system can be used for applications ranging from cell lysis and nucleic acid extraction to fine grinding of bone, teeth, plant material, powders, and other difficult samples.
For high-throughput workflows, the BeadBlaster 96 can process two 96-well deep-well plates simultaneously for a total capacity of up to 192 samples when equipped with the appropriate adapter.
Built for More Than One Type of Sample
Rather than limiting the lab to a single tube format or homogenization method, the BeadBlaster 96 can be configured for a wide range of sample preparation workflows.
Compatible formats and applications include:
96-well microplates for high-throughput sample processing
Microtubes for biological sample homogenization and cell lysis
15 mL and 50 mL tubes for larger-volume samples
Grinding jars and balls for dry grinding and hard materials
Wet homogenization, dry grinding, and cryogrinding
Recovery of DNA, RNA, proteins, and metabolites
Grinding of bone, teeth, plant material, powders, and other hard samples
Biological research, environmental testing, and industrial or analytical laboratory applications
Adapters, grinding jars, balls, and other accessories are available separately to configure the system for specific sample formats.
High-Throughput Homogenization
When processing samples in microplates, two deep-well 96-well plates can be loaded at the same time, providing capacity for up to 192 samples per run. This makes the BeadBlaster 96 well suited for laboratories that need to move beyond individual-tube processing without sacrificing control over homogenization parameters.
Programmable Digital Control
A large digital touchscreen provides direct control over speed, run time, pause time, and cycle count. Operating programs can be stored in memory, making it easier to reproduce established protocols and move between frequently used workflows.
The system operates from 180 to 1,800 rpm in 100 rpm increments, with programmable cycle and pause durations from 1 second to 59 minutes, 59 seconds and up to 99 cycles.
Designed for Tough Samples
Beyond routine biological homogenization, the BeadBlaster 96 can be configured for fine grinding applications. Benchmark specifies a feed size of less than 10 mm and potential final fineness of less than 5 µm, depending on the sample material and grinding configuration.
This flexibility allows one instrument to support workflows ranging from soft tissue and cell disruption to harder materials that require more aggressive mechanical grinding.
Easy Access and Safe Operation
The lifting safety cover provides convenient access to the sample holders and automatically locks during operation. A clear, wrap-around acrylic lid maintains visibility of the sample area while the instrument is running.
